An escape room in my classroom is a 'break-in' room, where the goal is for students to break into some sort of locked box. There will be different clues students need to figure out that will help them unlock the box. In order to keep all students engaged, there are also side clues, once solved, will give students hints towards the real challenge.
Students will be able to review math skills, work collaboratively, show off their strengths, communicate with each other, and learn more about themselves in relation to team work.
I am asking for different types of locks, so students working in groups or alone, can figure out how to open each lock. Each lock will need to be on a different type of box, and inside each box will be more clues to open another lock. The final box will have a few different types of locks on it as well, and the clues in the other boxes will unlock these locks.
Once students have 'broke-in' or not 'broke-in', we will take the time to reflect on the activity, so students are more successful in class, working together and with the next escape!
