I am asking for donations in order to fun purchasing books for my classroom. My high school is very small (575 students) and has no on site library! Currently our English novels are limited to about 2-3 class sets of books per grade (so small!). Next semester, my students will be reading two novels in class, but they will also be reading in themed book clubs! First, we are studying books that are or were challenged or banned in order to argue whether these challenges are relevant or not. The books I have listed are a part of that book club unit!
Students will be give 7 books to choose from: "Huckleberry Finn", "Always Running", "Catcher in the Rye", "Persepolis", "To Kill a Mockingbird", "Animal Farm", and "Slaughterhouse Five". We have class sets of some of the books above, but not the ones I am currently asking for. In order to ensure there is choice and voice in my classroom, as well as ensure students are able to properly discuss the themes and topics of this unit, I need more books!
Please help me to spread literacy and a love of book to my students. I am hoping that choice in their books and these books clubs will inspire a continued love of reading in students. Thank you!
