This space will try to replicate a Zen like environment that will elicit all the senses (sight, smell, taste, touch, hearing, and proprioception). The materials will be used for a place where students at Columbian Elementary can come whenever they need a safe/calm place to re-organize their minds and bodies. They will be able to listen to calming music or a fountain flowing. They will be able to smell calming scents of lavender and suck on butterscotch candy. They will be able to manipulate play-doh and run their fingers thru sand. They will be able to lay on a big pillow, sit on a pouf chair, or hide away in cozy tent. A brief break of 5-10 minutes will allow the students to process their feelings and/or de-compress after a negative event and then allow the student to return to the classroom for academic engagement.
