As a new class, (and a brand new teacher) it is important that we can get the class off to a solid start! I am requesting white boards so that we can use them daily in math and literacy centers. Paper, notebooks, papers, pens all add up quickly. Our class has opted for a more economic option! We will use them in guided whole-group instruction also small-group instruction. For math we will use them to practice our strategies and for practicing math with a partner. For literacy, we will use them to practice vocabulary, writing, and other literacy skills.
Because of the strong emerging bilingual presence in the classroom, it is important that there is a station available to students where they are able to listen to reading everyday.
In addition to these cognitive necessities and manipulatives, we also have physical needs in our classroom. For instance, some students are in need of alternative seating options when they are occasionally at their desk. I am requesting some tension bands and a few other things that will help those students who have physical needs while their brains are hard at work.
