I have been using traditional seating, chairs and tables, along with teacher controlled shelving, in my Kindergarten classroom for 15 years. I have discovered as the years have gone by, I have more students who prefer to stand, lay on the floor, or tip in their chairs for movement, and all of them need more involvement in their learning. I already have ordered two wobble chairs on my own and the students love them, so I know I need to add more. The additional materials I have selected will allow for the changes that my students need.
They deserve what their little minds and bodies need. Different types of seating to choose from to help learn at their best, a carpet to be able to meet together for social emotional growth and other classroom discussions, in addition to organizational drawers to allow student self-controlled morning tubs, math centers and literacy centers. Once our project is fully funded, my students will be able to have flexibility of their seating, movement they need, and to be able to have developmentally appropriate learning at their fingertips.
