These apple i pads will help my students to work and learn at their individual rate and academic levels. With apple iPads my students will be able to access and use a many educational apps and games that focus on learning English. The specific apps and games we use in class provide pictures, read aloud support, and word highlighting that help students focus on targeted vocabulary. Students need to hear how words are pronounced in English and they need to see visuals to help bring meaning to words and phrases in English. This support is effective for my students who have language deficits and the students who have academic challenges.
The apple iPads will also provide auditory and visual support, which will allow my students to work independently and build ownership of their learning, as well as master language and academic skills. The activities on the iPads will adjust according to how well the students master the skills. If the students need more remediation, the apps will provide additional activities accordingly. When students demonstrate mastery of target skills, the apps will adjust to provide activities needed to accelerate skills.
The donations to this project will aid the students in becoming successful independent English language learners. The activities are common core standards based, which are aligned to our district curriculum and state standardized testing. Research shows that ELL students need at least 3-5 years to become academically equal to their peers. The use of the 2 apple iPads will help to facilitate this process for my students.
