Currently, students are practicing yoga and mindfulness on our gym floor. To date, students have shown grit and perseverance learning yoga by practicing on the hardwood floor without any equipment.
Through your generosity, the funding of these yoga mats would be transformational for our first ever "mindful movement" class as our students learn to practice and appreciate yoga -- a life-long recreational fitness activity that is healthy for both body and mind.
Additionally, students would learn to take responsibility for their care and maintenance to ensure the mats (which are designed to be long lasting) will serve the community for a long time to come.
In our yoga unit, students have worked in small groups to master a sequence of 8-12 poses, which, in turn they have taught to their peers. Through this process, students have begun to cultivate the seeds of a life-long healthy body and mind practice while developing and maintaining positive relationships through a collaborative learning approach.
