To keep first graders engaged I use a variety learning spaces. We get up and move around to different parts of the classroom throughout the day. The carpet will be placed in the front of the classroom and used as a gathering place during mini-lessons and share time.
Each student will have their own space on this rug which help them stay focused and take ownership of their learning.
They will also be able to use the rug during independent work time as a comfortable alternative to working at their desks. Letting students choose their work space is a powerful way to keep them motivated and I know this rug will be a favorite spot.
