The headphones we use now are in disrepair and we use the headphones for many things throughout the learning day. Students use headphones when they take tests on the computer and when they are listening to books read aloud. This aids in their own fluency when they read. They also use them to play learning games on the computer. These games have some "teach time" where they need to be able to hear what the teacher is saying in order to complete the tasks that go with the lesson.
Headphones help the children focus on the task at hand. Since they are only listening to that one thing, they aren't hearing all the other things that might disturb their learning in a school setting.
