My students will use the LEGO Kits to complete a unit where they have to work with a partner to write a business plan, design and create a new inventive moving toy, make a colorful ad (using at least 2 persuasion technique), and present a commercial.
The students will work in pairs to write about their new toy business. What audience will their toy target (age group), how much will it cost and how will they merchandise it? They will draw a model of their toy. Then, they will use the LEGO's to create their new toy. We will photograph the toy, and around the photo they will create an appealing ad, using 2 of the numerous persuasive techniques we discuss in class. They will turn their printed ad into a live commercial, where they will use the actual toy and its qualities to persuade their classmate to purchase their toy.
All of the toys and ads will be put on display. The students from each class will go on a gallery walk. At the end of the gallery walk, the students will decide which toy they would like to purchase and donate to our school's toy giveaway drive.
