The supplies that I'm requesting will help students to succeed in kindergarten throughout the year. Many students are at different places in their learning. I have several students that require reading intervention to support them. These students need one on one support or small group instruction. They do not yet have the foundational skills (letter recognition and letter sounds) in order to start reading.
Hot Dots Let's Master reading will be used in one on one instruction to guide students in remembering letters and sounds.
Leveled readers and sight word readers will assist students at all levels in small group reading instruction. Incorporating books like these allow students to hold the book and follow along while the teacher reads.
CVC cards, CVC cubes, and puzzle cards will assist students with sounding out and blending words. Cubes will provide one to one correspondence when sounding and spelling words.
Our goal in kindergarten is to have all students reading by the time they move on to first grade. The supplies I'm requesting will help them where they're at and will help them be successful and ready to enter first grade.
The STEM items that I'm requesting will provide students an opportunity to be creative and use their imaginations while be socially distanced. STEM items such as builders and rings, will be divided up so all students may have their own supplies when working on a STEM project.
The specific standards are:
RF.K.1d Recognize and name all upper and lowercase letters in the alphabet.
RF.K.1 Demonstrate understanding of the organization and basic features of print.
RF.K.2 Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and phonemes.
K.CC.4 Understand the relationship between numbers and quantities; connect counting to cardinality.
