Reading is the best way to develop critical thinking skills that are needed to succeed in professional and personal enrichment. Much research has proven that the earlier a child is exposed to reading the better the child thinks critically. Many of my students did not receive early exposure to literature and it is evident in their limited vocabularies and ability to comprehend grade level reading.
Whether it is a short story or a novel, every student is engaged in the written word and the amazing way characters and plots come together, like in the requested novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. They are spellbound when they are following a read-aloud.
