My students were 1st graders when Covid-19 forced our schools to close down. My students were 2nd graders when most students and teachers were dealing with a hybrid year of learning. While my students have persevered through many challenges in their academic careers, many gaps still exist in reading and writing. Reading and writing skills are essential for expression, independence, and success. Every student deserves every opportunity to make an impact on our world. Reading and writing are cornerstones to those opportunities.
These materials will give my students the confidence and willingness to find their voice in writing. Writing is not an easy task for many students. They get caught up on grammar rules, spelling, or not having enough ideas. Fun writing utensils change that. It goes from writing being a "have to" to a "want to." Students want to find the words, ideas, and hopefully, their voice.
