Students need the opportunity to show their creativity. Children express creativity in thinking and communication by creating things with their hands. Whether its finger painting, building something with blocks, or cutting and gluing. They need the opportunity to express themselves. The books in my list will help my students demonstrate an understanding of how print is used (functions of print) and the rules that govern how print works (conventions of print). Students will ask and answer questions about a book that was read aloud. They will also have the opportunity to demonstrate an understanding of narrative structure through story telling/re-telling.
