This project will help build our instrumental music programs at both Davis and Veterans Family Schools. Currently, both schools have a small selection of old keyboards, and some classes have to share a single keyboard with 4 or 5 students at a time. These extra keyboards will allow each class to share with one other student, increasing their engagement and allowing them to practice longer each class. The ukuleles will be used to give students an introduction to instruments, and will be used at the elementary level. It is important for young students to know that they can learn to play an instrument early on, and can help them build confidence and self worth.
This project will give the students I teach a much needed opportunity to learn instruments in school that they are unable to learn outside of it. Most students I teach live in poverty, and would otherwise not get a chance to learn any instrument outside of school. It is therefore so important for them to have exciting and necessary instruments in school!
