My students love hands-on activities where they get to use tools that scientists use. Test tube racks will be used to see how pollution travels through freshwater. Hot plates will be used to demonstrate chemical weathering, and magnifying glasses will be used to observe soil samples in our neighborhood. We'll take a closer look at soil formation with samples as well. My learners enjoy donning gloves as a safety precaution because it makes them feel like real life scientists, and by wearing safety goggles and lab coats they can take on the role of problem solvers as they navigate through inquiry labs.
