Reeds are an important part for clarinet and saxophone players. Without them, they can not produce a sound. Reeds only last a short amount of time before they crack, chip, and wear away. Then they have to be replaced. As a saxophone player, it is frustrating trying to play on a bad reed especially when I do not have a new one to provide for my students.
As a trumpet player, it is frustrating trying to play different notes when you can not press down your valves or they get stuck and can not rise back up. Valve oil is essential for brass players because it prevents valves from getting dry. Thus, it is difficult to play exciting pieces of music.
We are a small school in a low socioeconomic demographic area. We are rebuilding the band and music program here, and so far there have been great efforts to achieving our goals. However, when resources and funding are limited, the program can not grow but so far without materials.
Our students are capable of achieving great things, and it takes a strong community to help them. I want to give them access and opportunities.
