T. Junior High is a diverse community of learners in central California. We have a low socioeconomic population with 85% on free and reduced lunch. While students struggle with the realities at home, they still come to school excited about learning and ready to make music! I have 120 students in my band program, divided between Beginning Band, Concert Band, and Symphonic Band. Many of those students also participate in Marching Band and Jazz Band.
Unfortunately, it costs money to run and maintain a thriving music program, and more often than not, my students can't afford to provide supplies and instruments for themselves. Most students have to borrow school instruments and supplies in order to participate. With all of those challenges, we have remained successful with Superior Ratings at festivals, and many first and second place trophies at competitions. I am proud of the effort my students put forth.
