Students love to explore the unique artworks, methods and practices of cultures outside of their own. Our students are excited to learn about the traditions of the Ukrainian people, and will do so by creating pysanky eggs.
Pysanky eggs are beautiful, shiny and highly detailed. First, a line drawing is made in pencil. Next, intricate designs are created by melting wax (we will use tea lights and wax melters), then wax is applied over the surface of the egg using kistka applicators. After each wax application, the egg is dyed and shined to a high gloss. Finally, it is finished and displayed. Each egg will be a unique design chosen by the students, using examples from a pysanky design book.
