Developing gross and fine motors skills can be a challenge to special needs students. We use a variety of materials to help or students to develop and practice these skills. Using LEGOs is a great way to have our students develop motor skills. When they think is "play time" students are able to use their imagination while developing skills.
The mat is a great piece that enhances the safe, calming environment we teachers strive for as well as an interactive place to convene when we have carpet time, center time, circle time and rest time on our day to day schedule.
