One of the most powerful ways to connect with students is through shared reading and discussing a text. As a language arts and special education teacher, I always encourage my students to become critical thinkers through reading. I would like to be able to send home each of my students with two books at the start of the year in order to encourage independent reading as well as parent involvement. I would also like to diversify my classroom library with less outdated books. Help me give my students the chance to read books that not only apply to their culture, but also controversial topics as well.
