4th and 5th grade girls who have experienced negative relationships, insecurities, struggles in their life, or who want to learn their capabilities, will participate in a ten week after school program, designed to allow all girls to recognize their inner strength and inspire them to live life on their own terms. They will participate in lessons that will encourage positive emotional, social, and mental health. They will learn important skills that will help them navigate life experiences. They will also learn the importance of team work and healthy relationships.
Physical activity is integrated into the program to encourage an appreciation of fitness and build habits that can lead to lifelong health. At the end of the ten week session, girls will participate in a Girls on the Run noncompetitive 5k, that will give them a tangible understanding of accomplishment. It will also support the framework of setting goals and achieving them. These girls will learn, at crossing the finish line, that they are capable of tasks that may seem impossible.
It is the goal of this program and ten week session, for girls to make new, lasting friendships, build their confidence, and celebrate everything that makes them unique. The girls will delve into ways to positively connect with and change the world.
