My students are part of dual language Spanish classroom. We are a rural school with a large population of Latino families of mixed language backgrounds. Our students are striving to be bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural citizens. They learn to read, write, do math, explore science and social studies, and learn about health all in Spanish. They also expand their learning in these same subjects in English.
One aspect of learning Spanish in a predominately English speaking world is to hear many examples of authentic academic Spanish in a variety of accents. Thanks to the many learning applications and resources on the web this a possibility using technology. In order to utilize these resources successfully students need to be able to listen and speak using headphones.
At first we tried earbuds, but the buds were too large for the kids' tiny ears. Next we tried cheap headphones, and although they were more comfortable they lacked microphones. We upgraded to headphones with microphones, but the value was not there. These headphones have cords that quickly loosen making the sound break up and eventually cease to work altogether. Last week, a student shouted "I wish these didn't have a 'string'!" which made me realize that this could be the solution we are looking for. Please help our classroom become more efficient and productive by using wireless headphones!
