Latinas and Latinos in STEAM will help the next generation of scientists within our wonderful country. Having almost no materials in my bilingual classroom, these simple materials such as safety glasses, beakers, graduated cylinders and pipets will give students hope in experiencing hands-on experiments which will help motivate students learning, something many didn't have in their native countries. This type of science equipment will address all the students in the class from the low functioning students who are mostly kinesthetic learners to our more advanced students. Having such equipment will bring smiles to their eyes knowing they can be just like the rest of the students who have an actual lab classroom. The goal in time is to have enough lab equipment that we don't have to borrow almost every day from the other classes. Bringing this sense of equity will provide confidence within the bilingual students and encourage them to pursue careers in science.
