The bicycle unit that I would like to start will be a huge benefit to all of our kids and give them the tools they need to be able to ride safely at home in their own neighborhoods. My principal has even given me permission to use the hallways to make it more life like, like riding on a street. I plan to make the hall by the gym like a street. I will have lines for dividing the hall like a street and will use the street signs throughout to teach the kids about proper safety.
I feel that teaching bicycle safety at a young age, in a safe and controlled environment, will be the least stressful situation for the kids, making it more enjoyable. I want the kids to enjoy what they are learning, even if it might be a little scary for them. I feel that adding in the signs to help with the road safety, will again, tie everything back into being more lifelike and make it even safer when kids ride at home or around town. The more practice kids get, the safer they will be.
