This project "Special Athlete Field Day" would allow our students to have a day that encourages active movement, socialization with other students and expose them to community outings. Many of our students have disabilities that prevent active participation in community sports/recreation. We planned this project last year to allow students not able to attend the Special Olympics held on Saturdays due to varying factors. The project's first year was a great success. Approximately 600 students took part in this incredible event. In spite of the difficulties our district is facing due to Hurricane Michael, we feel sure that this number will increase! This project would allow us to purchase materials, food/water, and other necessary items needed for their special day.
