In today's world, it is very important that students have a firm grasp on the concepts we study in math and science. Often I use diagrams, help them learn a mnemonic or teach songs to help them recall formulas. But life is so much more than memorizing a formula for a test.
It is not until students put in to practice what we learn, that the concept comes to life. By having my new "STEM corner" filled with a variety of math and science manipulatives, my students will be able to predict, observe, question, maneuver, ponder, and evaluate situations like never before.
By utilizing the materials and the hands-on learning activities, students will learn how to "think outside the box". They will begin by problem-solving in the classroom and ultimately be able to transfer that new way of thinking to home, community and world.
