Besides increasing my classroom library, these books will enhance our resource reading groups by providing them a set of books to read each week that are loaded with word repetition and sight words which is the building block to creating more fluent reading. They will also be the reader that they take home each night for additional practice at home.
Imagine being a resource student who is able to participate in your school's reading program on the same level as all your typical learning peers! With these new books, my students will be able to read these stories at their reading level in their resource room and earn points towards a reading program with their peers in their General Ed classroom.
With these books, my students will be able to compete at the same level for classroom challenges such as wall charts showing percent of reading accomplished or meeting a goal to have lunch with a teacher. My goal is to help them read more to increase their reading ability, to grow stronger in reading every day, and to eventually love reading as much as I do.
