With Scope magazines in every child's hands, I will be able to open the world of reading as we travel to far away places around the globe, probe deep issues using higher level thinking questions, and use our voices with writing in response to what we have read. I will be able to offer compelling narratives, exciting original fiction, delicious drama, and powerful, provocative poetry using this resource. As we read, we can participate in thrilling debates over current events, engaging in civil discourse, opening our minds to diverse views, while respecting other's opinions. We can grow our vocabulary and stretch our grammatical use as we respond in writing to what we have read.
Scope magazines will open our minds as we read about other young people who have conquered feats, traveled to distant lands, or used their voice in powerful ways, transporting my students from a closed mindset to a maturing growth mindset. As we are exposed to vignettes, infographics, photographs, and diagrams, we can focus on new ways to communicate and analyze text. Using Scholastic's online resources, I can customize instruction for every student. Students can read at their own level, watch knowledge-building videos, and listen to the text read aloud to them. These resources can be extended to families at home through a child's login. This can extend the learning and afford families the experience of reading together.
