This set of books will allow my students to see another side of life. Because we come from a very small, rural school my students do not see the diverse side of life. Books such as "The Hate U Give" challenge students' thinking and views in a way that will help prepare them for life outside our small town.
Tolerance and understanding are key aspects of a contributing citizen, and the knowledge gained from this book will aid in my students growth in these aspects. My students need to experience life in all of its glory and sorrow. This book will help them do that in a small measure. They are very good at seizing meaning and understanding how it applies to life in general and them specifically.
I have seen how wonderful novels can move and inspire students. I feel this book will do that. It will be a modern companion to "To Kill a Mockingbird" and show them life as they have not seen it before.
