My classroom has old-style attached desks as the only seating option. Not only are these desks not comfortable, but as we do a lot of project-based learning in my class, the students do not have adequate space to spread out out their materials for work.
I think flexible seating would make my classroom a more inviting and comfortable space for learning.
I like the idea of giving my students the option to choose seating that is comfortable for them. I have recently implemented some flexible seating options with materials that I have been able to secure for little or no money. Our classroom's new "comfy spot" has been a big success, but I only have one space for 10-12 students (per class).
I have chosen a futon for 2-3 students to work collaboratively on projects. I also have picked several different stools for portable seating, I chose these for students who are more comfortable sitting higher up. Lastly, I have asked for a beanbag chair with a back for students who may want to sit in a quiet corner to work.
