This iPad will continue to advance both technology and reading/writing capabilities within the classroom. As a pre-service teacher, I am working hard to learn all about the newest and best things possible for my students. Currently, I am working on a research project in my first grade class. The critical question is, "In what way does speech to text impact a first graders writing?". My unit will be focused on teaching 1st graders opinion writing. However, along this process I want to introduce my students to the speech to text component of Google Docs.
Technology is expensive, and is not always easy to come by in classrooms. The classroom currently has a couple of older iPad's, but I want to bring in a new iPad with advanced hardware and loading capabilities. This iPad will be used directly by my 1st graders to talk to their Google Doc about their story. They will directly tell their story to the iPad, while the iPad writes the story for them. This benefits the students because some of their writing skills aren't to the point where they can write full essays by hand yet. It also benefits them because not all of them can remember an essay's worth of information while they are taking the time to hand write. Speech to text allows another level of quick writing and note taking.
This iPad will be beneficial to students for years to come. From students with disabilities, to students who need a little extra boost, this iPad will make a difference in hundreds of little elementary school kids lives.
