As they time themselves with the timers, they can see their personal success as they complete reading passages faster and more efficiently. By using the partner passages, the students will be able to watch and compliment each other as they become fluent readers.
As fluency improves, so does confidence in all reading skills, especially comprehension.
As students question each other on the reading passages, they can discuss the passage in greater detail and see where mistakes are being made.
