Hands-on manipulatives give students the opportunity for speaking and listening while working with each other. In kindergarten, one of our biggest standards is speaking and listening; being able to work as a team to build on skills. These items work on problem-solving skills and building team solutions to create new things. These manipulatives also give students literacy and math practice through play. All of the materials I chose are able to be sanitized each day after school. This is necessary with COVID-19. These wanted manipulatives will let students spread out and be in smaller groups but continue to learn in a fun way. Keeping kindergartners safe during this pandemic has been essential for me as a veteran teacher. They have adapted so well and allowing them the freedom to choose new centers and choose to work alone or with a small group, while masked, will be so helpful.
