Wonder is a novel, written from multiple perspectives, about a child with physical differences from that of his peers. The novel looks at his perception of events, as well as the perceptions of those around him. The novel encourages students to think about others and encourages students to "Choose Kind" above all else.
Through our social emotional learning standards, students are encouraged to learn about self-awareness, social awareness, self management, and relationship skills. All of these things lead to increasing students' capability of responsible decision making. Wonder is a great novel to not only learn academic standards, like perspectives and author's purpose, but it encourages us all to be Wonders and treat others kindly.
