My students spend a significant part of their day in our classroom.
I want it to be a fun and functional place, designed with their best interest in mind. Sitting in at a traditional desk and chair does is not what works best for each student. My goal is to create a learning environment, an atmosphere, that enhances student engagement and focus.
I was fortunate enough to be able to purchase a few flexible seating options earlier on in the school year and the students not only enjoy them, but benefit from them greatly.
They are more comfortable, which has allowed them to be on task and focus for longer periods of time.
The various seating options allows for more student input. They have the "power of choice," which not only gives students more ownership of their learning, but it has also increased their self-monitoring skills.
The design with flexible seating also allows for a more collaborative learning environment. Students are working together better than before.
I want our classroom to be fun, functional, and increase student focus, and that is possible through flexible seating.
