Reading development is fundamental to a child's success in school. Instilling a solid foundation with phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, comprehension and fluency is my top priority in my classroom.
I believe that all children can learn to read and it is up to the teacher to help make it fun and interesting!
The first 3 hours of each day is spent focusing on literacy. Students participate in whole group time in which they have the opportunity for song and dance, learning games on our interactive white board, reading big books, and lots of other fun activities. Then we move to small group instruction in which students participate in learning with the teacher, learning with the kindergarten assistant, technology centers, and independent activities.
I would love to use these books to allow my students a new way to show off their reading skills. I want to begin a "Book Bag" program where students will take home books each week, read to their family and fill out a reading log. This allows families to be aware of their child's progress as well as building the child's reading confidence.
