Imagine entering a classroom filled with humor, intellect, and potential only to see the barriers of “impossibility.” Students are eager to work but have no accessibility to pencils, paper, or basic calculators. Do you simply purchase their supplies or do you take this mishap as an opportunity to teach about self-advocacy and empowerment? Please help me change the climate of defeat to one that champions students to advocate for their needs and empower them for success. Yes, my students need calculators and lined paper, but moreover, students need to see impossibility turn into possibility so that they value their voice!
