Platform tennis paddles and balls will enhance our racquet sports unit and give students the opportunity to learn a sport besides traditional tennis. Platform tennis (pickle ball) is a lifetime sport that students can benefit from their entire lives. Most of my students have not seen a platform tennis paddle nor ball. This equipment will broaden my students’ knowledge of raquet sports and give them an opportunity to learn a game that is becoming more popular in adulthood.
This equipment will give students opportunities to apply their previous knowledge of traditional tennis into a similar sport and be successful. Platform tennis can also be played on smaller courts allowing more students to play at one time in the gym instead of waiting their turn. Students would be able to compare and contrast traditional tennis with platform tennis to get a better understanding of the sports and determine which one would be a better option for them in the future.
