Manipulatives bring learning to life. Weather we are learning how to count, join groups of objects together, or take groups apart. Having objects to move makes it real for the young child. We don't use them just for math, but we use them to count syllables, phonemes or how many letters in words, or words in sentences. Anytime children learn by doing it becomes an authentic learning experience
Manipulatives are a staple in my classroom we use them throughout the day. The kindergarten student's ability to stay focused can sometimes be short. Give that student a task that is fun where they can manipulate objects and use their imagination then they stay focused and learn.
