I am requesting 32 copies of Romeo and Juliet. In the 4th quarter, I would like to challenge my students to read Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet. Additionally, I would like each of my classes to perform scenes of the play to their peers.
It's important for students to understand that Shakespeare is accessible and relevant to their lives. I feel that this play is one that students can connect to and relate to since so many of them have experienced attraction to another person and being told by their parents what they can and cannot do.
By using the No Fear version of the text students have the opportunity to read the Shakespeare text on their own and then compare their interpretation with the "modern text" on the right. The No Fear version provides students with a valuable resource and removes any stigma that may come with Shakespeare and attempting to read and comprehend it.
