This project is a NGSS-based project. It will focus on all four standards in the NGSS-3.Forces and Interactions unit. The students will be studying how objects do and do not have potential energy, and how electric and magnetic force can enact an object to move, and specifically how magnets can prevent objects in motion from touching one another.
These materials will allow the students to reinforce their reading knowledge of the curriculum and change this knowledge from theory to action. They are eager learners that crave the depth of knowledge and are waiting for the opportunity to go beyond the surface of reading materials.
On the other hand, these materials will also help students gain knowledge they may not have been able to while reading. For instance, I have English Language Learners in my classroom who will greatly benefit from these items. The materials will offer a multi-sensory approach to teaching to scaffold the learning process for EL students. The hands-on approach will allow them to make connections to the text they would not be able to easily understand with just reading.
The materials will provide an opportunity to allow all students to be creative while they create their own structures using the Zome tools. They will also be able to equally access material and to all go to the same depth of learning. By donating to our project you will be narrowing the achievement gap by providing them an opportunity to materials they otherwise would not have been able to access.
