Early learners with Autism Spectrum Disorder crave sensory input. Each student needs different kinds of sensory input. Children seek sensory input from seven main categories that include: oral needs, auditory needs, tactile needs, olfactory needs, visual needs, vestibular needs, and proprioceptive needs. My PPCD classroom has many different materials that meet the needs of students that seek the first 5 categories of sensory needs, but is lacking in materials that meet the needs of students that seek vestibular input and proprioceptive input. These materials with change the lives of the children in my classroom and allow them to calm their bodies to prepare for learning.
