Assistive technology in the classroom increases a student’s learning and independence. Accommodations written into a student’s plan assist in removing barriers to learning. Co-Writer and Dragon Dictation software assist students with dyslexia, visual and hearing impairments, as well as a variety of disabilities to be able to be more successful. With the iPad, the school would be able to provide iPad for our reading classrooms, writing classrooms, and interventionist. The iPad would be used to meet the needs of students with 504 and special education IEP accommodations. Without devices that support current software, students are not able to access programs that meet their accommodation needs.
Interventionist would also be able to use the iPad to complete reading testing through MCLASS, which tracks a student’s progress.
The iPad will also be used with our Special Education students in the general education classroom. They provide support for writing, reading, and answering questions orally and having their answers printed.
