In Upper Elementary children have multiple opportunities to learn about the real world through experiences and field trips. The 6th grade students get to do what is called a "Going Out " project where they get to pick a subject, do research, visit places about the subject, and learn about something to bring back to our classroom. Some of the students were interested in photography and newspapers, so they took a trip to the local newspaper to learn more about how it is made. They came back to our classroom very excited about the prospect of creating a school newspaper. The problem is, the school computers that we use have a lot of blocked programs, and they don't offer access to printers.
We would like to have a designated computer where they can work on the different roles and responsibilities that this newspaper entails such as: writing, typing, editing, photographs, publishing, reporting, etc. We have a spot in the classroom where we can set this up, so that they can have access when they are ready to work on the newspaper. We are looking into programs where they can learn more about graphic design and publishing a newspaper.
We would really appreciate your help in making the Mountain Lion Review a reality!
