Our program serves students with mild to severe intellectual disabilities, autism and multiple disabilities. Our students work hard to develop appropriate hygiene and food handling skills in order to create professional confectionaries that are sold after school in our bus bay and at our district office. Our students are responsible for the entire process of running a self sustaining business; from taking inventory of each ingredient, creating a shopping list, going to the store to buy what we need, putting items away, referring back to a modified recipe to make truffles, cookie bars, cinnamon tea (and much more). They prep our cookie cart by cleaning it and setting up our treats, and cash box, students then roll our cart out to the bus bay and work the transactions. They greet customers, take orders, exchange goods and money with each customer and give back change. Each school year we have a different set of students that reconcile the cash box daily and make deposits weekly. Each school year we have about 15 students that perform various roles such as baker, shopper, sales person, purchasing and accounts payable. We would love your support to purchase an over the range microwave. This will help the functionality of our baking process and free up some counter space too! All of our proceeds go directly back into the business for purchasing ingredients. Our program will benefit from your support for many years and affect hundreds of students! Thank-you, Mrs. Scott!
