My fantastic first graders are so busy, their hands never stop moving and are ALWAYS itching to create. That is why I would like for them to have a class set of Legos to explore their burgeoning creativity. Our daily schedule at school consists of mainly core work (reading, writing, math, social studies, and science) as well as a chunk of time that I've designated for individual choice to relax at the end of a long day of work. My students are provided with lots of choices for this unwinding time, from reading books to playng on iPads to drawing. Not only do most of my students want to draw, but they take it a step further and use the paper to cut and glue and re-create like mad, and the unique things they come up with are just astounding!
If my students could have access to Legos to construct 3D models of their special ideas to push the boundaries of their creativity, they would be just so excited to share with me and their peers the endless possibilities of what they could create! I would like to use this money to purchase a large box of Legos that contains about 700 pieces to have enough to share among my students as well as two sets of base plates that they can use as a base to build creations on.
Thank you so much for your help!
