Students with disabilities thrive when teachers help them access material through multi-modal learning. Visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile learning is enhanced when materials are in color. Providing visual supports in a print-rich environment is more effective when materials are provided in color.
Our alternate curriculum is full of visual supports for our students to derive meaning from every word in every sentence. Having color copies makes a huge impact in usability of these resources. Color copies of supplemental teacher-created materials, such as matching activities, real-life picture supports for graphs and charts, and graphics to enhance hand-over-hand activities or communication devices, will support student understanding. We need a printer to help make this possible.
