After attending a gifted conference, I learned about the importance of building a mindful classroom, even at the 8th-grade level. My student's brains are growing and changing so quickly and I have the chance to teach them to self-focus and to understand their strengths and weaknesses regarding their own brains.
While teaching about the habits of mind I will incorporate the picture books to send a clear example of a mindful habit. This way each student will have an idea of what area they need to work on. Understanding the patterns of thinking and behavior using self-awareness and reflection will create a productive and positive classroom environment.
