I have a class of 22 curious, passionate, and exuberant second graders. Our school has a beautifully diverse population with a high percentage of low-income families.
One of my greatest goals as an educator is to create a safe, comfortable, and nurturing environment for my students. We, as a class, value building relationships, honoring feelings, and encouraging each other to be our best selves. Tiny humans often come with large emotions and need help in learning how to manage those feelings when they get too big. We use mindfulness, meditation, and breathing techniques to keep ourselves on track for learning.
I love that my students come from such diverse backgrounds. It allows for many different perspectives to be honored and celebrated. Differences are something that my students appreciate about each other as well as about themselves.
